Audubon At Home Wildlife Sanctuary

With trained Audubon At Home Ambassadors, this program helps homeowners, schools, churches, corporations and others to restore native habitat and transform property into a haven for birds, butterflies, and other beneficial wildlife. Attracting at least 10 sanctuary species earns certification as an AAH wildlife sanctuary.

Conduct bird counts and report data: Christmas Bird Count, Winter Waterfowl Count, Northern VA Breeding Bird Survey, wildlife surveys at Occoquan National Wildlife Refuge and Meadowood Recreation Area, various other bird and butterfly counts

Offers Northern Virginians the opportunity to learn more about the natural world and be informed, active stewards for its care and protection. Classes in Ornithology, Beginning Birding, identification classes on warblers and "little brown jobs", and other wildlife and ecology topics.

Regular bird walks led by local experts, occasional butterfly and other wildlife walks, overnight field trips per year to locations outside Northern Virginia.

ASNV providess a scholarship to enable a Northern Virginia teacher to attend the National Audubon Society's Educators Week at Hog Island, Maine.

Work with partners to identify and implement projects to protect and improve natural habitats to promote birds, other wildlife and plant systems. Current focus is on the Lower Potomac Important Bird Area (IBA)
