Program 1
THE MWUL EDUCATION AND YOUTH INITIATIVES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS-ACHIEVEMENT MATTERS WORKS TO ENSURE THAT ALL CHILDREN ARE WELL EDUCATED AND PREPARED FOR ECONOMIC SELF-RELIANCE IN THE 21ST CENTURY BY ELIMINATING THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP BETWEEN MINORITIES AND INCREASING THE GRADUATION RATE AMONG AFRICAN-AMERICANS AND HISPANICS.-THE JAMES H. GILLIAM SR. FELLOWSHIP BRINGS LEADERS WITH DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS TOGETHER TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY IN COMMUNITIES, WHILE BUILDING THEIR CAPACITY AS POLICY MAKERS, ADVOCATES AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS. DURING THIS 10-MONTH IMMERSIVE FELLOWSHIP, FELLOWS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN POLICY RESEARCH, COALITION BUILDING AND LEARN TO NAVIGATE DELAWARE'S POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC ARENAS FROM A HOST OF LEGISLATORS, COMMUNITY ADVOCATES AND BUSINESS LEADERS ACROSS THE STATE.-THROUGH A CROSS-SECTOR COLLABORATION WITH THE WILMINGTON EDUCATION STRATEGIC THINK TANK (WESTT) GUIDED BY AUTHENTIIC VOICE AND EVIDENCE, THE CENTER FOR EDUCATION EQUITY AND PUBLIC POLICY ENVISIONS A WILMINGTON WHERE BLACK AND BROWN CHILDREN WILL NO LONGER BE HARMED BY POOR EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES AND CHILDREN ARE GUARANTEED AND EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATION.
Program 2
THE MWUL OPERATES TWO AUXILIARY GROUPS, THE MWUL GUILD AND YOUNG PROFESSIONALS-THE GOALS OF THE MWUL GUILD ARE TO MAKE COMMUNITIES AWARE OF THE MWUL'S MISSION AND TO FINANCIALLY SUPPORT THE MWUL THROUGH MAJOR FUND RAISING EVENTS AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS.-THE MWUL YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ARE DEDICATED TO SUPPORTING MOVEMENT AND SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY THROUGH SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY ACTIVISM BY EMPOWERING YOUNG URBAN PROFESSIONALS AGES 21-45 THROUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Program 3
THE BUILDING PEOPLE POWER CAMPAIGN PROMOTES RESEARCH, WRITING AND EDITING BY A TEAM OF FACULTY SCHOLARS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND PRACTITIONERS TO SHED LIGHT ON THE CURRENT CONDITIONS IN DELAWARE'S COMMUNITIES OF COLOR IN THE AREAS OF HOUSING, EDUCATION, HEALTH, CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND EMPLOYMENT AND PROVIDE DATA DRIVEN RECOMMENDATIONS FOR OUR POLICY MAKERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS WITH THE GOOD OF ERADICATING RACIAL AND ETHNIC DISPARITIES THROUGH COLLECTIVE ADVOCACY AND ACTION.
