Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
CERT
Disasters often overwhelm local emergency response capability. (CERT) training prepares you to protect yourself, your family, your neighbors and your co-workers until professional help arrives. CERT training is a hands-on activity based learning curriculum designed to help everyone be prepared. The course is taught by local emergency response professionals who bring their knowledge and experiences to life in the classroom. CERT covers the following topics: personal preparedness, fire safety, medical triage and treatment, search and rescue, disaster psychology and Incident Command System.
CERT graduates have the opportunity to continue training and join COAD as a volunteer. CERT volunteers often serve in leadership roles, supporting community events and disaster response missions. CERT volunteers may be used for disaster clean-up, volunteer reception, donations management, call centers and other related missions. If you want to support your neighbors during a disaster, become a member of CERT!
Medical Reserve Corps
The Southeast Wisconsin Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) engages the skills of practicing and retired healthcare professionals in support of disaster response, community wellness and public health preparedness outreach. Volunteers in the MRC are prepared to serve their communities when their skills are needed most. The MRC is comprised of three teams: Mass Casualty/Medical Surge, Public Health Surge and Community Sheltering.
Medical professionals in all disciplines are welcome to the SE WI MRC including: doctors, dentists, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, certified nursing assistants, mental health counselors, social workers, patient advocates and medical examiners and staff. Volunteers receive extensive training within their teams to prepare them for service and also participate in numerous community outreach events.
Tri-County Long-Term Recovery Committee
The Tri-County Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC) serves residents in Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Waukesha counties by providing resources to address their long-term unmet needs. COAD’s Community Recovery Fund provides resources for long-term recovery projects and case managers to assist residents with the recovery process. The LTRC Review Board accepts and reviews cases of unmet needs, distributing available donated goods, volunteer labor and financial assistance to qualified residents.
The LTRC Review Board is comprised of individuals from other non-profit service agencies in the region. These volunteers work closely with case managers to determine the best and most fiscally responsible way to address the unmet needs of residents. The LTRC strongly supports mitigation projects and works to educate residents on how to prepare themselves for future disasters.
