Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Scouts BSA
Scouts BSA is a year-round program for youth 11-17 years old that provides fun, adventure, learning, challenge, and responsibility to help them become the best version of themselves. In Scouts BSA, young men and women go places, test themselves, and have one-of-a-kind adventures that can’t be found anywhere else.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Today, we aim to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law. We do this through youth development, educational, and character initiatives that strive to instill and facilitate in young people, outlooks which value citizenship and respect for civil society; individual responsibility; strong moral character; and honor and respect for the family.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
In Scouting, boys and girls start with their best right now selves and grow into their very best future selves. It’s fun, hands-on learning and achievement that puts kids in the middle of the action and prepares them for today – and for life.
Young people need to know to be good and to do good. Few will argue with the importance of teaching values and responsibility to our children – not only right from wrong, but specific, affirmative values such as fairness, courage, honor, and respect for others. Beginning with the Scout Oath and Scout Law, the Boy Scouts of America program is infused with character-building activities that allow youth to apply abstract principles to daily living situations.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
While various activities and youth groups teach necessary skills and promote teamwork, Scouting goes beyond that and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community. We accomplish this by introducing Scouts to activities that promote personal responsibility and stewardship. New programs such as; STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), Venturing (co-ed), Sea Scouts (co-ed), and Exploring (co-ed) build strong self-esteem and self-confidence. It also provides for a deeper appreciation of others, including peers, parents, and other adults. Scouting prepares them to become responsible and participating citizens and leaders as they embark on different journeys throughout their Scouting career and beyond.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Today the Baltimore Area Council Serves 41,858 youth and adult members who in 2019 contributed $3,000,740 to our community through various community service projects. We continue to grow and modernize our programs, introducing initiatives that focus on STEM and Inner City Scouting. We are currently in the middle of an $11 million dollar Capital Campaign to improve our councils camp, Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation.
As we prepare for our future, the Baltimore Area Council is committed to providing greater opportunities for youth to participate in Scouting, regardless of their surroundings, economic situation, religion, race or ethnic background as well as cultivating partnerships with communities, organizations, businesses, foundations, and individuals.
