What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Spending time with others around a camp fire, swimming, boating, going on hayrides and so on, is a normal part of the childhood experience for most of us. It is an important part of our life experience and helps to mold us into the people we ultimately become. For persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities it is altogether different. Most IDD individuals will never have this opportunity and will miss out on some very important life lessons.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

St. Francis Camp on the Lake aims to assist in the development of more complete individuals by giving intellectually and developmentally disabled campers an experience that's tailored to their special abilities, needs and diets. We also wish to create a time of respite for parents with special needs individuals so that they can have a short break from the often overwhelming 24/7 lifetime routine of caring for these children and adults who may never be able to function on their own.

St. Francis Camp on the Lake is committed to providing the ultimate camp experience to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It is our goal to become the premier camping facility for individuals with special needs in the Great Lakes region. By harnessing the great ideas, time, talents and treasure of so many charitable volunteers from the International Order of Alhambra, the Knights of Columbus, local community groups, medical professionals and countless other selfless individuals we continue our upward trajectory. Thanks to the long hours and dedicated service of these people our 36-acre site now includes 195 feet of cared for waterfront, a sandy beach with swim area, beautiful natural woods, nature trails, sports area, crafting shelter, adventure course and beautiful cedar lodges where campers and counselors live and play together. St. Francis Camp on the Lake is built on love and its with the continued love of so many that we can inspire individual campers to be empowered, loving, contributing human beings.

Great facilities constructed with the support of our donors are a very important part of the formula for improving the lives of individuals. An even more important part may stem from the individual team members and professional staff, both paid and volunteer who dedicate themselves to making change to better the lives of the IDD people in this world. They are inspired by the daily personal challenges faced by the very special and loving people they work with. Many are in pursuit of higher education degrees or lifetime careers working with intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals and their families. Many others just feel a calling to assist them.
