Mission

The Rural Coalition/Coalición Rural, founded in 1978, is an alliance of farmers, farmworkers, indigenous, migrant and working people from the United States, Mexico, and beyond working together toward a new society that values unity, hope, people, and the land. With our strong roots in the movements for human, civil, indigenous, and farmworker rights, Rural Coalition/Coalición Rural members have for 40 years shared the belief that rural communities everywhere can have a better future and that community-based organizations who have long served the needs of rural communities and people have a fundamental role in building that future. Investments in their work will provide important returns to our economy, our environment, and our society.

Building Resilient Rural Communities

Rural Coalition and our 50+ community based members continue our united effort to secure increased investments to grow and demonstrate the value of the models of community-to-community interchange, policy and civic engagement and capacity building we’ve developed in our diverse communities. We employ our own authentic policy voice grounded in our deep knowledge and experience, our strategy of multicultural alliance work, intersectional histories of political struggle, and traditional knowledges of agroecology, agroforestry, food sovereignty, land stewardship and sustainable development. Our long-term goal is to increase support for the holistic plan generated to connect our full network and catalyze their vision to regenerate resilient rural ecosystems through an equitable transition away from extractive strategies focused on economic returns to an empowerment approach featuring durable investments valuing people, places and sustainable economies.
