Trout Unlimited, Northern Virginia Chapter

Mission

The Northern Virginia Chapter of Trout Unlimited is a diverse group of men, women and children, mostly from the Alexandria, Arlington County, Fairfax County, and Prince William County, who enjoy fishing and associated activities to enhance quality fishing opportunities. We are one of the largest TU chapters and often interact with other nearby TU chapters.
(Mission) Our emphasis is on cold water stream preservation and restoration, including actions to cool urban storm water that reaches our local streams, improving stream water quality and fish habitat. Some of our activities include bass and other warm-water fish when our urban streams become too warm for trout due to the summer storm-water runoff from our hot roofs, parking lots and streets that enters our streams with little or no filtering or cooling. Our membership also participates in fun and educational activities, such as Fish-With-A-Member trips, Tune-Ups and youth education.
(Outreach & Volunteering) We invite you to join in the fun of running the Northern Virginia Chapter of Trout Unlimited. Many of our Officers, Committee Chairs and members enjoy rewards of planning, organizing, directing, and controlling what takes place for our members and between the public and other chapters. The volunteer opportunities described below are divided by Chapter Opportunities, Stream Projects, and Youth Programs. To volunteer, contact our Officers or Committee Chairs. Or let us know your interests by filling out and mailing the Volunteer and Donation Form. It is a truly rewarding way to give back! Volunteer to fill one of our current vacancies. If you are not already a member, please do your part and become an active member by coming to our Chapter Meeting or e-mail our Membership Chair.
(Stream Projects) Chapter volunteers help with camp Special Love, a camp for families of, and children with, cancer and HIV/AIDS held at the 4-H Center in Front Royal, VA. Fly-fishing is offered through the combined efforts of wonderful volunteers from several TU chapters, Rapidan, Northern Shenandoah and the Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia Chapter Trout Unlimited assists City of Herndon with their annual Herndon Annual Kids Fishing Derby, which is usually on Saturday, mid-March, 7am - noon, at Sugarland Run Stream, located off Herndon Parkway. Herndon provides all the equipment (poles, tackle, bait, etc.), but you are welcome to bring your own.
(Meetings) Our chapter holds regular meetings on the first Thursday of every month at the Vienna Firehouse, Vienna, Virginia. You need not be a member to come to our meetings. Come at 7:00 p.m. to join in the fun of meeting our members and swap fishing and stream conservation stories. Come at 6:30 p.m. to join in the fly tying classes. In the rare event that we have to reschedule, check our home page for a notice.
