Mission Statement

SACNAS is an inclusive organization dedicated to fostering the success of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American scientists, from college students to professionals, in attaining advanced degrees, careers, and positions of leadership in STEM. We support a national network of 6,000 paid members and a larger community of 20,000+ and 115 chapters (student and professional).

SACNAS National Conference Undergraduate and Graduate Students - Build networks on a national level with peers and mentors - Present research to a national audience of students, scholars and professionals - Receive information regarding summer programs, internships, higher education and employment - Advance careers through participation in mentoring and professional development sessions Post-Docs, Junior Faculty, Faculty, Researchers, & Science Professionals - Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and K-12 educators - Engage in discussions addressing the professional demands and concerns of minority scientists - Develop a network of research colleagues and friends - Share your latest scientific research with colleagues and students nationwide K-12 Teachers & Teachers-in-Training - Discover new ways to captivate minority student interest in the sciences - Increase background knowledge in math, science and engineering - Create networks with educators, professional scientists and post-secondary students from across the nation SACNAS K-12 Education Program The goal of the K-12 Education Program at SACNAS is to ensure that elementary, middle and high school students from traditionally underrepresented minority backgrounds receive superior educational opportunities, role models and the encouragement needed to pursue careers in science, mathematics, engineering and technology. SACNAS Biography Project Highlighting the life stories and professional contributions of Native American, Chicano and Latino scientists, mathematicians and engineers, the SACNAS Biography Project was created for use in the K-12 classroom. "The purpose of the biographies is for the students to see themselves reflected in the lives that are presented here." - Dr. William Yslas Vélez, Biography Project Principal Investigator.
