THE MINORITY FELLOWSHIP AWARDS WILL CREATE AN INNOVATIVE PIPELINE AND TRAINING INFRASTRUCTURE FOR BUILDING A WORKFORCE OF CULTURALLY-INFORMED PHYSICIANS WITH SPECIALIZED EXPERTISE IN ADDICTION TO SERVE RACIAL AND ETHNIC MINORITY POPULATIONS. IT IS BASED ON THE GROWING RECOGNITION THAT APPROPRIATELY TRAINED ADDICTION PHYSICIANS CAN MAKE CRITICAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS (SUDS), ESPECIALLY WITHIN UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITY (URM) POPULATIONS, BUT THAT THERE IS A SEVERE SHORTAGE OF THESE PHYSICIANS, PARTICULARLY IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES. THE RECOGNIZING AND ELIMINATING DISPARITIES IN ADDICTION THROUGH CULTURALLY-INFORMED HEALTHCARE (REACH) TRAINING PROGRAM WILL ESTABLISH A WORKFORCE PIPELINE THAT RECRUITS DIVERSE MEDICAL STUDENTS AND RESIDENTS.A TOTAL OF 24 INDIVIDUALS SERVED IN YEAR TWO.

IMPLEMENTING PHARMACOTHERAPIES FOR OPIOID DEPENDENCE (PCSS-MAT, PCSS-MAT2 AND PCSS-MATSP1): COLLABORATIVE PROJECT WITH SEVERAL NATIONAL PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS OF PHYSICIANS SPECIALIZING IN ADDICTIONS TO PROVIDE EVIDENCE-BASED EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES PRIMARILY STORED ON THE WEB INCLUDING: ONLINE MODULES, WEBINARS, MENTORING AND CLINICAL GUIDES AND TOOLS. THESE TRAININGS AND RESOURCES FOCUS ON TREATING OPIOID ADDICTION.APPROXIMATELY 175,000 PEOPLE BENEFITED FROM THIS PROGRAM.

THE STATE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TEAM EDUCATION AND SUPPORT (STATES) CONSORTIUM IS AN ALLIANCE OF NATIONAL PHYSICIAN, NURSE, AND ALLIED HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS WITH EXPERTISE IN ADDICTION MEDICINE. STATES WILL SUPPORT THE STATE TARGETED RESPONSE GRANTEES ACROSS THE 50 STATES AND TERRITORIES IN THEIR MISSION TO COUNTER THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC BY DEVELOPING LOCAL NETWORKS OF EXPERTS PROVIDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE ON PREVENTION, TREATMENT, AND RECOVERY FROM OPIOID USE DISORDER (OUD). AAAP EXPECTS OF THE 43 TA TEAMS TO PROVIDE TA TO AT LEAST 100 LOCAL PROVIDERS, PRACTITIONERS, OR OTHER INDIVIDUALS (I.E., TA RECIPIENTS) WHO, WITH OUR TA, WILL BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO DIRECTLY ADDRESS THE OPIOID EPIDEMIC THROUGH PREVENTION, TREATMENT AND/OR RECOVERY SERVICES FOR A TOTAL OF 1,510,000 INDIVIDUALS SERVED IN YEAR TWO.
