Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
FOCUS works to save lives, reduce suffering and create resilience in communities prone to disasters. Our country is prone to various types of natural disasters, and we want to ensure our community is prepared.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our primary strategy involves working with families in the community to help them become prepared for disasters. We encourage families to (1) have an emergency plan; (2) build a disaster kit; and (3) utilize smartphone apps to stay aware of inclement weather in their area.
We also train volunteers in first aid, CPR and AED skills so that they are able to respond in came of an emergency.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We provide training to our volunteers so that they are able to go into the community and educate our constituents about the importance of disaster preparedness. We also provide resources including an emergency plan template that families can fill out, along with a list of essential items they should have in their emergency kit.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Thus far, we have prepared over 3,500 families for times of disasters. Additionally, we have trained over 1,200 volunteers in first aid, CPR and AED skills. We continue to educate our constituents and train our volunteers in an effort to build a truly disaster-resilient community.
