What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Students across the United States do not receive equitable access to education resources. Education has the power to shift the course of a person's life, but far too many children at the bottom of the economic ladder aren't receiving the education they need to rise. We are committed to righting this wrong.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Family Engagement and Organizing

Organizing gathers voices of supporters who are just as passionate as we are to spread the word about current issues facing education and mobilize their community for educational equality. We engage with parents and families using a variety of methods.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Stand UP is a powerful ten-week program consisting of one introductory meeting, eight academic classes, and one graduation ceremony. Classes are focused on actionable steps parents can take immediately to get involved in their children’s academics and to ensure their children are on track to attend and graduate from college.

Population(s) Served
Adults

One of the largest influences on a child’s education is the policy surrounding their education. In order for every child to graduate college-ready, policies need to be in place that provide the best outcome for all children, regardless of background.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

For more than 20 years, Stand for Children has advocated for better and equitable education standards for all children by utilizing a strong three-pillared approach: Parents, Politics, and Policy. The effectiveness of this approach, coupled with organizing and empowering parents and community, has led to policy, legislation, election, and budget wins across our ten states.

Five areas where we must excel in order to achieve our mission
1. Focus on the highest leverage strategies to help disadvantaged students (State and District Impact);
2. Build an engaged army of Supporters (Reach);
3. Mobilize Supporters for targeted, effective action to improve public education (Activation);
4. Develop a culture of high-performing people and systems (High-performing Team); and
5. Create a sustainable future for Stand (Financial Sustainability).

Expand online movement-building;
Streamline our family engagement and organizing model;
Improve management capacity;
Further professionalize our performance management systems;
Raise money earlier in the year through a culture of transparency and accountability;
Diversify revenue streams;
Be deliberate in spending;
Incentivize affiliates to become financially sustainable.

Since 1999, Stand has achieved over 209 state and local victories and leveraged over $6.7 billion in education investments. The policies and investments we’ve secured are improving the lives of more than 5.6 million children.

We work across 10 states to close the achievement gap and to focus on passing policies on the state and local level that will ensure all children, especially those whose boundless potential is overlooked and under-tapped, have access to a quality public education.
