Mission

Founded in 2000, Access Art is a youth-focused community arts organization that inspires personal success by providing a safe space for hands-on learning in a variety of artistic media combined with civic engagement and leadership development. We serve over 400 community members in Morrell Park and Edmondson Village per year including youth and parents through comprehensive out of school arts programming, partnerships with the local elementary/middle schools to promote student achievement and family well-being, and finally through the coordination of resources and neighborhood projects that support community enhancement through creativity and art. Our after school art programs serve youth ages 7 through 18 and empower participants not only with comprehensive arts skills, but tools to help them in their journey towards success such as collaboration skills, problem solving techniques, and a positive self-image.

Youthlight Arts and Media Program

Access Art is unique in the way we use art as a focused tool for community enhancement and youth development. Our programs weave together art instruction, community action, and leadership development to positively affect individual youth and the neighborhoods where they live.

Our main programming component is the Youthlight Art and Media Project which delivers a year long, youth-centered out of school program to address the artistic, emotional, and cognitive development of youth between the ages of 7 and 20. This intensive, year long program facilitates young people to explore and engage in a number of artistic disciplines including: traditional darkroom photography, mosaics, silk screening, painting, drawing, mural creation, as well as digital camera technology and media literacy.

Each year youth build on the comprehensive art skills they learn in the Youthlight program, deepen the connection to their own creative process, enhance their ability to affect change in their communities, and finally gain skills to become teaching assistants, mentors and entrepreneurs.
