What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Camp GonnawannaGOagin'

Campers will expand their social and communication skills by joining one of our six, week-long summer camp sessions in Virginia Beach. We also offer a one-week session every spring, and when the school schedule allows, another camp for the winter break. Students ages 6 and older with a primary diagnosis of autism are eligible to attend camp. For individuals on the spectrum, Camp Gonnawanngoagin’ is a haven free from the daily struggles of processing the world they live in. We provide the communication and behavioral supports needed for every child to be successful.

FACT has three separate Social Programs that are run monthly for teens and adults with autism: Teen Time, Social Club, and Out n’ About. Each of these programs target a specific age group and ability level, and they are designed to enhance social skills and foster peer interactions through community outings. These opportunities for community integration allow individuals to hone skills within a supportive environment. We aim to make all of our participants feel appreciated for their individuality and to teach them how to treat each other with respect and kindness. Outings are specifically chosen so that our participants have increased opportunities to socialize with their peers.

FACT provides fun, interactive sports programs that teach and reinforce invaluable social and communication skills to individuals with autism. Being a part of a sports team is a huge component to learning these life skills. Therefore, FACT offers a wide array of sports leagues throughout the school year, including basketball, soccer, kickball, volleyball, and bowling. Each league provides an interactive, supportive atmosphere where children ages 6 and older can increase their knowledge about the sport, teamwork, and about one another.

Each sports league lasts about eight weeks and practices weekly. Our goal is for every participant to experience the fulfillment of being part of a team and challenging themselves.
