Psy.D Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY (PSY.D.) IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
Graduates of DMU’s Institute for the Psychological Sciences (IPS) Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology program are trained to address today’s mental health challenges by utilizing advanced psychotherapy skills, psychological testing, and a focus on specific pathologies and concepts within the field of psychology. Our Psy.D. graduates are working in a variety of settings and positions: private practice, outpatient clinics, diocesan consultation, with the military, and as faculty at clinical psychology programs.
The Psy.D. program consists of 122 semester credit hours of coursework: 101 credit hours of psychology, 12 credit hours of integrative studies in philosophy and theology, and a minimum of 9 credit hours of dissertation research. Students in the doctoral program must also complete a minimum of 1,780 hours of clinical externship (of which 280 hours occur in the introductory practicum off-site, 750 hours occur in the Center for Psychological Services, and 750 hours occur in the advanced practicum off-site), take a series of comprehensive exams, author and defend a doctoral dissertation, and complete a pre-doctoral internship.
This program adopts as its training model a modified version of the Practitioner-Scholar model, which is based upon guidelines developed by the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology (NCSSP).
The IPS doctoral program in clinical psychology (Psy.D.) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Masters in Science in Psychology (MSP)
M.S. IN PSYCHOLOGY (ONLINE)
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Psychology is a 36- credit hour, 100% online graduate program that is designed to be completed in two years of enrolled study. The online masters in psychology program provides professional competency in psychology while developing an integrative understanding of the human person in application to service delivery.
This online masters in psychology program seeks to exhibit advanced professional skills such as communication, interpersonal, leadership skills, budgeting, program evaluation, and cultural awareness in order to enable growth as a transformative leader in a service-delivery setting.
Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health
M.S. IN COUNSELING (ONLINE)
The M.S. in Counseling in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) is a online counseling degree program that embraces the Catholic-Christian vision and educates in the core dispositions established by industry standards.
Students acquire the necessary counseling knowledge and skills to engage in communities as effective community leaders and social justice advocates. Graduates are compassionate and ethical in their work as trained professionals that honor and respect the innate dignity of every person in a global, diverse population.
The online counseling degree program requires 66 semester credit hours of coursework, a practicum experience of 100 hours with a minimum of 40 hours of direct services and an internship of 600 hours with a minimum of 240 hours of direct service. Students are also required to travel to complete three extended weekend residencies in the duration of the program.
