Remembrance celebration and candlelight vigil service

YWOW offers monthly meetings, personal growth opportunities, and social events for our members. Whether they are newly widowed and looking for emotional support, or are further along the "widow's path" and rebuilding a social life, YWOW is a group to turn to. Examples of our support services include:
Friday Night Fellowships (FNF's)
Offered the first Friday of every month, these gatherings provide information and resources to address the changes and needs widow/ers face. Guest speakers have covered topics such as Nutrition and Wellness While Grieving, Financial and Tax Changes Affecting Widows, and Letting Go of Regrets. We end each meeting with fellowship to meet new friends, and catch up with old ones.
Support Group Chats (SGC'S)
Held various times throughout the month, we meet to share, discuss, and comfort our fellow widows/ers. We face the world without our spouse, but here we join others to lean on, laugh with, and learn about the everyday changes that the grieving and healing processes of widowhood bring.
Wids With Kids
This group is a new resource for widowed parents to join. As widowed parents (of infants, toddlers, pre-teens and/or teens), we are faced with a multitude of new troubles; our own grieving, our children's grieving, and our new role as both mom and dad. Because we are not single parents through divorce or choice, our needs are different. We meet monthly to learn new coping skills, offer support, and meet others who understand our unique problems.
Spousal Suicide Survivors ("S3")
Suicide is still a topic very few people want to discuss. Our members who've lost their spouse to suicide have all the usual widowhood issues to face, as well as grappling with guilt, social stigma, and the unanswerable "why"?. The monthly S3 meetings offer suicide survivors reassurance in a setting where no explaining is necessary.
Other Social Events
Getting back into life as a widow/er isn't easy, but Y.W.O.W offers monthly activities to keep the loneliness at bay. Keep an eye on our website, www.ywow.org, to learn of potlucks, movie nights, beach trips, and other events we have scheduled.
"Understand Grief" Workshops
Dr. Alan Wolfelt, (internationally noted author, educator, and grief counselor) developed a workshop to help those living with loss learn about the grieving process, and learn how to help themselves heal. Participants learn that while everyone's grief journey is different, the tumultuous emotions they've felt are not only common, they're normal. One participant reported "I've been widowed almost two years and thought I knew everything about it, but this book opened my eyes. It was such a relief to learn that all these bad feelings have a reason, that I'm not going crazy, and that it will eventually get better."
