Preserve and interpret the history of the worlds largest capacity steam-powered water pumping plant, later converted to Mattamuskeet Lodge, a National Register Building. Preserve and restore antique farm equipment used to farm the reclaimed 50,000 acre bed of Lake Mattamuskeet from 1926-1932. Preserve and interpret the history of Company 424 of the Civilian Conservation Corps, Mattamuskeet and Bell Island Camps, 1935-1942. Preserve and archive more than 36,000 pages of original historic documents, maps, and photographs pertaining to the history of the lake. Develop heritage tourism activities and enterprises to support the mission while providing badly-needed economic development in a depressed rural region of eastern North Carolina.

BIO

Lewis C. Forrest, holds the doctor of education degree from North Carolina State University and has served as an associate professor at East Carolina University. He is the founder and volunteer executive director of The Mattamuskeet Foundation, plus he serves as the primary researcher and presenter of educational programs. He also serves as President of Forrest Management Consulting, and brings more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience to the organization, that includes entrepreneural business ownership, corporate management and marketing consulting, extensive writing and publishing, and public speaking on an international scope. He has developed training and performance improvement systems for hospitality, tourism, and banking organizations across the United States and in nineteen other countries. All of these experiences are valuable to the current agenda and mission of The Mattamuskeet Foundation.
