Mission

The primary objective of the Arc of Pitt County is to secure for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities the opportunity to choose and realize their goals of where and how they learn, live, work, and play. The Arc is further committed to reducing the incidence and limiting the consequence of intellectual disabilities through education, research, advocacy, and the support of families, friends, and the community.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The National Employment and Training Program provides competitive employment opportunities to 900 adults with mental retardation annually (7,500 beneficiaries; $1,134,000 in expenses). The Public Information and Referral Program distributes information about mental retardation, employment, education and many other subjects to chapters and members, families, the media, and professionals through a toll-free number, (1-800-433-5255), The Arc's Web page, thearc.org and through written requests. The Fetal Alcohol Prevention Program produces and distributes materials and information about causes and prevention of fetal alcohol syndrome and fetal alcohol effect (1,000,000; $25,000). Chapter and Membership Services Programs develop and furnish administrative and membership information to 1,000 state and local chapters (250,000; $675,000). The Governmental Affairs Program addresses issues that affect people with mental retardation (1,500,000; $750,000).
