What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The vision of the Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is to become the state’s premier research focused
learning community, committed to innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and diversity.
Core Priority 1 – Excellent Academic and Student Experiences
Through excellent academic and residential programming, ASMS will prepare students for college and
leadership opportunities. ASMS will provide comprehensive and diverse experiences, including researchbased
learning opportunities and exceptional instruction. ASMS will challenge students to expand their
education both in and beyond the classroom by providing diverse learning and residential experiences that
cultivate a commitment to growth and success.
Core Priority 2 – External Engagement
ASMS is a living and learning community that contributes significantly to the educational, economic,
cultural, and social development of the people in Alabama. Through partnerships with business, industry,
government, education, and non-profit organizations, ASMS will extend the expertise of our faculty and
staff, the accomplishments of our alumni and donors, and the contributions of our students to improve the
quality of lives, organizations, and communities in Alabama, the nation, and the world.
Core Priority 3 – Fiscal Resources
ASMS is a fiscally responsible state agency that provides high-quality education to worthy Alabamians.
ASMS will continue to partner with stakeholders to identify new funding sources that support our mission,
our innovative programs, and our services to meet the changing needs of students and Alabama.
Core Priority 4 – Technology, Infrastructure, and Operations
ASMS embraces changing technologies to serve the needs of the community, enhance the institutional
experience, and provide support for students, faculty, and staff. ASMS also has an aesthetically pleasing
historic campus that must continue to grow beyond our current property lines, promote safety, and ensure
sustainability.
