Mission

GANSU, INC was founded in 1990, as a Christian charitable, 501(C)(3) organization, by William C. Conrad, M.D., with a mission purpose to provide eye care, through surgery and teaching, to the underserved people of west China. In 1991, a contract was negotiated with the Gansu Provincial Government, which allows this work. Each year, teams of American Board certified Ophthalmologists, nurses, and other volunteers go to rural China, to teach and perform cataract surgery. The surgery is performed in a mobile surgical facility (a "pop-up" camping trailer - a "first" anywhere in the world).
