Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Georgia Unites Against Discrimination

Started in 2015, Georgia Unites Against Discrimination (GUAD) is a nonpartisan grassroots campaign dedicated to advancing non-discrimination protections for LGBT Georgians and ensuring that no individual, business, or other entity is granted a License to Discriminate under Georgia law. Our greatest success was leading the effort to secure Governor Deal's veto of a bill that would have led to discrimination against the LGBT community, women and single parents. This effort entailed working with dozens of state and national organizations, mobilizing over 75,000 Georgians and aligning our messaging with hundreds of businesses and faith leaders.

The Georgia HIV Advocacy Network is a statewide network of providers, consumers and citizen advocates who advocate for HIV policy initiatives on both state and county levels through policy analysis, advocacy training and coordinated community activities. While the Georgia HIV Advocacy Network works within the statewide reach of the Equality Foundation of Georgia, we have prioritized our work in those areas where HIV prevalence rates are the highest (specifically the metro-Atlanta area). We remain committed to statewide work and prioritize policy initiatives such as Medicaid expansion and HIV criminalization that will impact all people living with HIV in Georgia. In April 2015 EFG started the Youth HIV Policy Advisors Program because all laws and policies related to HIV should be informed by the experiences of people living with HIV. The YHPA Program is a leadership development program that trains young people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Metro Atlanta in policy advocacy and provides them resources to educate state, city, and county level policymakers to make better decisions related to HIV prevention and treatment. The program has graduated 43 participants in 4 cohorts and is currently preparing for its fifth group of young people living with HIV in metro-Atlanta.

TransActionGA is focused on coordinating story collection among transgender and allied Georgians, training corporate leaders on transgender competency and advocating for trans-inclusive policies at private businesses, schools and colleges, and state and local governments. The TransActionGA Leadership Academy was created in 2018 as a leadership development program to train a cohort of transgender advocates from around Georgia on developing and analyzing policies, community mobilization, how legislation is developed and passed on a local and state levels and how to work effectively with elected officials and other civic leaders.
