What we aim to solve
Since 1973, more than 63.9 million legal abortions have been performed in the United States. In Georgia, 31,248 abortions were performed in 2020. Our clinics are located in the two counties with the most abortions in Georgia. We serve ten times as many abortion-minded patients as our peer organizations across the nation. In other words, many medical pregancy clinics care for pregnant women with financial needs who are not considering abortion. Our organization, in contrast, focuses on women who report that abortion is their first choice. This allows us to truly save lives from the harsh reality of death by abortion. Approximately 11,921 children were in foster care in the state of Georgia as of August 2021. Our Bridge Extended Care Program provides the ongoing support needed to transition families from crisis to stability, leading to healthier families and less children in the foster care system. We empower fathers and mothers to become thriving parents.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Medical Care:
Our Nurse Practitioners provide free medical care such as pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, STI testing and treatment, and pap smears. In addition, they provide evidence-based education concerning all pregnancy options (parenting, adoption and abortion). After nearly 25 years in operation, we praise God that we are outperforming our peers across the nation in terms of reaching the women who are most likely to have an abortion, and saving lives. While peer organizations saw an average of 25 abortion-minded patients in 2021, we saw 256. In addition, we saw five times as many babies born in 2021 compared to our peer organizations across the nation.
Social Services: Bridge Extended Care
Patients who are or were considering abortion are eligible to participate in Bridge Extended Care. By attending Christ-centered parenting classes regularly, patients earn "baby bucks” and shop in our Baby & Me Boutique for all the critical supplies they will need during the first two years of their child’s life such as diapers, wipes, baby food, baby clothes, cribs, car seats, etc. This often translates to a three-year relationship with women and families, and provides multiple opportunities for discipleship. In 2021, 110 mothers participated in Bridge classes. In exchange for the "Baby Bucks” that these patients earned through class attendance, we provided them with 7,411 items from our Baby & Me Boutique including cribs, car seats, diapers, wipes, books, toys, baby clothes and other essential items.
Prevention:
We work to prevent unplanned pregnancies and sexual health issues through our middle and high school programs, and through individual appointments with women seeking services from us. Our Prevention program seeks to prevent unplanned pregnancies by educating and empowering teens to set high standards and make healthy choices. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, our speakers made presentations to more than 13,000 students annually at 19 schools in Fulton, Forsyth, and Cobb counties. In the Fall of 2021, we resumed presentations to 2,200 students at 10 schools in two counties. We look forward to the continued expansion and growth of this important program.
Post Abortion Care:
Our trained lay counselors provide confidential care and Christ-centered healing to anyone in our community who has experienced abortion. We provide private sessions to individuals and groups through virtual platforms so that women can join from the comfort of their home at the time that is most convenient for them. It's estimated that one in three women over the age of 45 has had an abortion. The unspoken, undiagnosed impacts of this life experience can be devastating, but healing in Christ is available. One patient shared, "After my abortion, I knew I was hurting, but I didn't really understand how much it was affecting my entire life. Today, it's like I'm a brand new person. I look at my life and I know it's completely different, quite literally because I started talking to God."
Social Services: Bridge Maternity Care
For pregnant women who are not at risk for abortion, we provide maternity care throughout pregnancy to help families transition to healthy parenthood. Patients take parenting and life skills classes and receive baby supplies up until birth, giving these families a healthy start.
Crisis Care:
Our trained Patient Care Advocates provide compassionate, non-judgmental support to young girls, women and families facing unplanned pregnancies and sexual health crises. While the licensed medical team handles medical care, our Patient Care Advocates provide emotional support and prayer. They give our patients a safe space to process through all of their sexual health decisions. Our exit surveys show that our patients consider their care team to be very sensitive and very helpful. In 2021, 98% of our patients said they would recommend the clinic to a friend.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our unique approach is strategic. Research shows that women considering abortion are most likely to discuss the termination of a pregnancy with the father of the baby or a medical professional. Leading the way among nonprofit pregnancy organizations in metro Atlanta who yearn to save babies from abortion, we were the first to become medically-accredited. Our programs are strategically focused to address all aspects of the abortion cycle:
- preventing unplanned pregnancy
- providing free medical care and holistic support during pregnancy
- equipping pregnant women to transition from crisis to stability through nearly three years of parenting education, baby supplies and social services
- giving babies a healthy start in life
- providing hope and healing to women who have experienced abortion in the past
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?

- Strategically utilize the nationally-recognized "linear patient service model" to ensure our patients receive optimal medical care.
- Transition patients from crisis to decision through comprehensive medical services related to sexual health.

- Collaborate: Life Resources of Georgia, Chase Advancement, Women’s Health Network and the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We operate two life-affirming, medical pregnancy clinics strategically located in the two counties that have the most abortions in metro Atlanta: Fulton and Dekalb. Our medical team includes three Nurse Practitioners. All of our medical work is overseen by an OB/GYN and all of our ultrasound scans are interpreted by a radiologist. Our Patient Care Advocate team team is extensively trained in the unique kind of holistic care we provide to young girls and women experiencing sexual health crises.
Our current CEO, Talli Moellering, has been the leader of A Beacon of Hope for 13 years. She has a business degree from Indiana Wesleyan, and joined the pro-life movement in 1990, volunteering at the local center that her in-laws helped start in northern Indiana. Talli is a certified Sexual Risk Avoidance educator, a Post Abortion Recovery Specialist and has additional certification as a Crisis Pregnancy Coach through the American Association of Christian Counselors. In 2017, Talli led the charge to have both of Beacon’s clinics accredited by AAAHC, a nationally known organization that requires ambulatory health care clinics to meet 550 rigorous standards. A Beacon of Hope was the first clinic in Atlanta to accomplish this standard.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since 1997, we have saved approximately 8,136 babies' lives in metro Atlanta alone. After nearly 25 years in operation, we praise God that we are outperforming our peers across the nation.
• According to national averages, we saw five times as many babies born in 2021 as our peer organizations across the nation.
• In 2021, 98% of our patients reported that they would recommend our clinic to a friend.
• Beacon was the first clinic of its kind to become medically-accredited in metro Atlanta. This means that a nationally recognized, third-party organization verified that we met over 550 rigorous standards that are designed to make the patient experience exceptional.

Who are the people you serve with your mission?
We serve young girls and women facing sexual health crises and unplanned pregnancy. Patients have the opportunity to fill out an exit survey at the end of each appointment. We review the results of these surveys at each staff meeting and board meeting.

What significant change resulted from feedback?
We recognized that patients felt they had to wait too long before they were seen. We updated our flow of care to ensure that patients were better informed about the timeline they could expect. We also added televisions to the waiting room featuring fun, upbeat programming to provide a more comfortable waiting environment.
