Concert Series

In 2023-24, The Florida Orchestra, the largest full time professional performing arts organization in Tampa Bay, will produce its 56th continuous season of high-quality orchestral music programming. Conductor Michael Francis, in his 9th season as TFO Music Director, leads TFO’s 71 full-time professional musicians, selected by competitive blind auditions, graduates of Juilliard and other national and international conservatories and music schools. TFO is committed to delivering high quality live orchestral concerts, accessible music experiences and programs of artistic excellence that help build a stronger community by offering the many benefits of music to as wide an audience as possible. The new 2023-24 season will offer over 100 opportunities for public participation including concert performances within TFO’s five signature series: Masterworks, Pops, weekday Morning Matinees, Inside the Music, and Chamber concerts, as well as film, rock, Youth, Family and other special concerts.

TFO offers free Classical Kids tickets for ages 5-18 with one adult ticket purchase for Masterworks performances and starting with 2023-2024 season, expanding to Kids tickets for Pops series; free tickets for school groups, teachers, non-profit organizations, complimentary/reduced admission for military, veterans, medical and first responders, and senior communities.

CLASSICAL KIDS: Kids and teens ages 5-18 get in free to all Masterworks concerts with Classical Kids tickets. At least one paying adult purchase is required per order.

MUSIC FOR FAMILIES: In partnership with the Pinellas County Library Cooperative, TFO offers vouchers for free tickets to select concerts for families with library cards, free of charge and vouchers in the Talking Book Library for the blind.

YOUTH CONCERTS
TFO programs and performs free Youth Concerts throughout the season introducing elementary students to orchestral music in three regional venues in Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa, and other venues.

STRINGS FOR KIDS
TFO Strings for Kids is a free music education program for elementary grade students in public schools, at community centers, and in areas that serve at-risk youth. Professional musician-educators provide high quality music education, group and individual instruction, instruments and repairs, and mentorship. TFO works in partnership with the public school districts and with Memorandum of Understanding.

TEACHING ARTISTS
TFO sends professional musicians into schools for instruction and support of music education and teachers.

SUMMER CAMP
TFO collaborates with other non-profits to provide free music enrichment and instructions as part of traditional summer camps such as YMCA.

POPS IN THE PARK
TFO performs free Pops in the Park concerts in public spaces each year, drawing families and audiences of all ages and stages for a full orchestral performance experience. The outdoor parks concerts can draw 20,000+ depending on the venue.

INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO
TFO brings the Instrument Petting Zoo to community concert audiences. Participants have a hands-on exploration opportunity with string and percussion instruments. This free program is also offered at schools, community centers, assisted living facilities, and libraries.

PROGRAM NOTES
TFO website offers a wealth of information including extensive digital program notes by a trained music critic, for every concert which can be accessed anytime. They include the repertoire, program notes, videos, blog posts, musician bios, lists.

SOUNDWAVES PODCAST
TFO is one of the only orchestras in the nation to provide innovative audio program notes on its website and as part of its new Soundwaves podcast. The new podcast also connects audiences more closely with musicians through “Secret Lives of Musicians” episodes.

PRE-CONCERT CONVERSATIONS
TFO Music Director Michael Francis, conductors, musicians and guest artists engage in dialogue for audience one hour before concerts.

This online archive offers TFO stories audiences won’t get anywhere else, including news, peeks backstage, concert previews, musician profiles, photo albums, and videos.
