Concert Series

The upcoming 2019-2020 season includes five classical masterworks concerts, plus two orchestral pops concerts (two shows each), at the Charlotte Performing Arts Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. Three of the masterworks concerts will also be performed at the North Port Performing Arts Center. Each concert includes an average of 62 musicians hired regionally, and a visiting national or international soloist who, in addition to performing, also participates in a pre-performance talk with the Maestro.

Population(s) Served

The Punta Gorda Symphony partners with all public, private, and charter schools in Charlotte County to provide an interactive concert experience for all third-grade students. Our partnership with Carnegie Hall and the Link Up program "Orchestra Swings" provides us with an evidence-based curriculum that integrates student participation with a professional orchestra. Third-grade classes follow the curriculum beginning in September, culminating in a March 6, 2020 concert where 1,000 students join in the orchestra by singing and playing the recorder from their seats.

Population(s) Served

The two-week music camp for elementary, middle, and high school children serves all of Charlotte County, and is held at the Punta Gorda Middle School. The children select a musical instrument to study from any instrument family. The children will either learn how to play an instrument or learn new skills. If a child does not own an instrument, one is provided at no charge. They also receive choral instruction, music theory, and participate in music and movement. At the program's end, parents and friends are invited to a camp recital showcasing solo and ensemble performances. Tuition assistance is available based on financial need.  Dates, times, and location are coordinated with a theater camp run by the Charlotte Players so that children can take advantage of both camps for an enhanced growth and enjoyment experience.

Population(s) Served

The Punta Gorda Symphony encourages lifelong learning through two adult enrichment programs. Medical Grand Rounds, founded and developed by neurologist Dr. Ramon A. Gil, Medical Grand Rounds is an innovative lecture series on the intersection of medicine and music, held as a Saturday luncheon. Sponsored in part by local doctors, medical practices, and the medical industry (equipment, services, and pharmaceuticals), three annual lectures have an average of 40 attendees. Due to the successful word-of-mouth network in the medical industry, some attendees routinely travel from as far as Tampa and Naples. Behind the Notes, a Friday afternoon lecture series prior to each of six concert weekends, is hosted by the Lifelong Learning Institute at the Charlotte Campus of Florida Southwestern State College. The series is designed to enhance music appreciation, active listening skills, and general knowledge of classical orchestral music, and averages 35 attendees. Maestro Ponti is known for his personal, fun-loving presentation style, including extensive Q&A. Our contracted Guest Artist Soloists also perform and participate.
