What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The Association serves those affected by Lou Gehrig's disease in southeast Texas. Those affect by ALS are in our service area is estimated to be between 600-800 patients. Our patient service program includes the ALS Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine, An ALS Association Certified Center of Excellence. This is a collaboration between the ALS Association and BCM and provides a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Additionally, we provide ongoing education to patients and healthcare providers. This includes an annual ALS Symposium that is open to all attendees and provides up to date information about the disease, treatments, and research. An equipment loan and assistive speech device loan program provides needed equipment to patients when needed at no cost to them. The equipment is returned to ALSA when no longer needed, refurbished, and passed on to others. ALS Connection provides support groups on a monthly basis throughout our service area. We work to link people with critically needed community services and helps them through the health care insurance system. Our Advocacy team supports local, state, and national initiatives to help ALS patients. Our newsletter and website provide up to date information about the organization, current news, research updates, events, and fundraising opportunities. We have a active volunteer program for those interested in helping.
