Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Lions Sight Program
Through all our eleven locations, our primary program is to provide comprehensive sight and hearing care to the needy. Since 1942, Mid-South Lions has provided direct sight care to those in need. Our hearing program was established in 1989.
Lions Satellite Clinics
In addition to our headquarters location at the Hamilton Eye Institute in Memphis, and in order to better provide care to those in need, we have established agreements with "satellite" clinics in Rogers, Hot Springs and Mountain Home, AR; Jackson, Columbus and Ocean Springs, MS; and at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO.
Lions Low Vision Center at Hamilton Eye Intstitite
Lions Low Vision Center at Hamilton Eye Institute provides exams, equipment and care to needy sight-impaired patients who cannot be helped with eyeglasses, but do not need surgery.
Lions Hearing Program at Methodist University Hospital; University of Memphis Speech & Hearing Center and Bella Vista (AR) Hearing Center

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Assisting the sight and hearing impaired that are below poverty level income is a never ending process. Our goal at Mid-South Lions is to help as many people as possible. By providing the gifts of sight and hearing to those in need, we are making our community, our region and our world a much better place. Our Lions and board do not care who gets credit, they don't ask "what's in it for me?" and they're always upbeat and positive about helping others. This is the secret to our success and why Mid-South Lions will always continue to provide "A Miracle A Day"!
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Over the years our organization has focused on soliciting donations from Lions and Lions Clubs. This has served us well for over 70 years, but the need has grown geometrically over the past few years and our funding has not matched this growth. Our strategy for the future is to expand our donor base, solicit more grant funds from area foundations and corporations, extend our brand by marketing through media outlets in an attempt to familiarize people with our program and our need. If we can convince only 500 new boosters to commit to a monthly giving program, we would never have a waiting list. Please help us continue to provide sight and hearing to the needy by joining us today.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Mid-South LIONS core assets are LIONS. With over 18,000 in our four-state area, that's our donor base. We must do a better job of communicating with our Lions Clubs, but beyond that, we must let people outside Lions know exactly what we do, how we do it and how much difference it makes to THEIR community. I know eyecare is not sexy like saving children with cancer, but we do change lives, we do provide light, sound and most of all HOPE to the sight and hearing impaired. Almost everyone has a sight or hearing problem. Our job is to remind them that something can be done to help those who are not in a position to help themselves. Once we accomplish this, people will join our fight against darkness and silence.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Mid-South Lions has provided the gifts of sight and/or hearing to over 35,000 people. That's larger than most towns and cities in our four-state area. Saving the sight and hearing of over 600 people last year indicates that we continue to make progress and with the help of new funders, while continuing or even expanding our current partnerships and collaborations, we can grow that number exponentially.
