What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Pregnancy Testing & Verification
We provide more nearly 700 pregnancy tests each year. Often, our test confirms a client's suspicions, or validates the results of her home test. Because medical professionals perform our tests, we can provide written documentation of a positive test for use with insurance providers and government assistance programs. Ultrasound is the most effective way to determine viability in early pregnancy. Up to 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage prior to detecting fetal cardiac activity. For a woman considering abortion, it's especially important to determine whether she has a viable pregnancy. If not, her course of treatment is different and she won't need an abortion. Because this is true, priority is given for ultrasound to clients considering abortion. In the case of a viable pregnancy, we can confirm the pregnancy is in the uterus where it belongs, and determine exactly how far along she is. Clients are equipped with an accurate due date and good information on what to expect in the coming weeks.
Earn As You Learn
Earn As You Learn is an incentive program through which we distribute maternity and infant clothing and supplies. Clients participate in a number of learning opportunities in our center and in the community. As they complete tasks, they receive points which can be exchanged for needed supplies in our on-site store. One particular learning opportunity has its own built in incentive. An 8-week prenatal education class is offered to clients in their first or second trimester. The class is taught by a representative from the UT Extension office, and focuses on nutrition, early infant care, and car seat safety. In addition to points, graduates earn a starter basket of basic baby supplies. Approximately 100 clients participate each year.
Light of Hope
It is estimated that up to 40% of women will have one or more abortions by the time they leave their child-bearing years. Many find that experience more difficult to deal with than they expected. Often, the pain associated with their abortion experience represents a secret they cannot tell anyone, and so they suffer in silence, often for many years. Light of Hope offers a 9-week Bible study that helps women and couples unpack that experience and find healing for their pain and release from the shame so many of them feel. For many years, we offered a similar program, but few took advantage of it. In 2010, we relaunched our program using a new curriculum, and with a renewed commitment to take the need and the possibility for healing to women and men, rather than expecting them to come to us. Now, our Executive Director highlights the program each time she speaks. As a result, over 100 women and five men have participated since our pilot group. As many as 25 have participated in a single year.
Community Events
Hope Pregnancy Center is committed to providing community events that help empower parents to build strong foundations for confidence and purity in the lives of their children. This includes events like the popular Father Daughter Purity Ball, and the Mother Son Character Ball. Our father daughter event is in its twelfth year and draws approximately 1,300 guests over the course of four nights. The mother son event began in 2013 and has begun to grow at an increasing rate. In 2016, we had over 300 guests.
Mobile Medical Services
A mobile medical unit allows us to take our services outside the four walls of the center, and directly to our community. Whether it's a real or perceived barrier that keeps a woman from coming to our building, a mobile unit goes far in dismantling those obstacles. The mobile unit will be staffed by a nurse, a client advocate, and a driver. At launch, we plan to visit four sites weekly, and provide services to walk in clients, or anyone who schedules a visit using our website. Just as we do at the center, we will offer pregnancy tests, options information, advocacy, and limited ultrasound scans. Centers in other cities have seen their client numbers increase dramatically through the use of mobile medical services. We anticipate adding as many as 100 clients in the first year.
