Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The vision of Jimmie Hale Mission is to create a lasting transformation in the lives of adults most affected by homelessness, addiction, and unhealthy living, into men and women who can lead healthy and fulfilling lives. By establishing a relational and healing environment, we will assist each client in achieving physical, mental, spiritual, social, and vocational health so they can lead a fulfilling and purposeful life for the glory of God.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy for solving homeless follows closely that of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
When someone in need first comes through our doors, we ensure their physical needs are met: they are fed, take a shower, have warm clothes and a safe place to sleep.
Once their immediate needs are met, we begin to focus on more long-term needs. We provide access to counselors and chaplains for an individual to work through any issues they are struggling with.
Through the Stewart Learning Centers, individuals are able to assess their skills and education level; we often see those who are illiterate learn how to read! We assist those who wish to get their GED, help create a resume and practice interview skills. Assistance is offered in getting necessary documentation needed for employment that many homeless do not have access to including a driver's license, birth certificate and/or social security card. Individuals are encourage to resolve any outstanding legal issues.
Transportation is provided to and from job interviews and the end goal is to get men and women back to work and back to self-sufficiency.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Jimmie Hale Mission has been in existence since 1944 and has been helping those in need for many decades. In 1995, the Mission opened Royal Pines Recovery Center, followed by Jessie's Place, shelter for women and children, in 1998. In 2001, the first Stewart Learning Center to offer education remediation and job readiness. Fundraising thrift stores help support these causes.
The majority of funding for our programs comes from generous individuals like you, area churches and businesses.
The Mission is blessed to have a supportive staff of individuals working daily with the men, women and children serve as well as those working to ensure our long-term goals and support services are met.
The Mission is a member of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions (AGRM), accredited by the Evangelical Counsel for Financial Accountability (ECFA), accredited by the Alabama Association for Christian Recovery Ministries and by Ministry Ventures.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Most recent numbers are available in the annual impact report.
1. Since 2006, more than 1,300 men and women have secured employment.
2. In the past year, 121 women and children were served at Jessie's Place.
3. In the past year, 1,059 men were sheltered.
4. Overall, the Mission provided more than 61,000 beds and provided more than 198,000 meals to those in need.
As we live in a fallen creation, we recognize that we will never fully solve the issue of homelessness. However, the Lord has called us to serve those who are 'the least of these,' and that is what we will do as long as we are able to.
