Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
In 2015, we are applying for a grant from Pfizer pharmaceutical to train physicians and allied healthcare personnel in the systematic treatment of those addicted to nicotine through the regular use of cigarettes or forms of smokeless tobacco. To this end, we have collaborators in the Birmingham Area Tobacco Treatment Specialists (BATTS), formed in June of 2015, and with Cardiovascular Associates, LLC, a large group of specialty physicians who have allowed utilization of their physicians and facilities to do intake and a six week behavioral counseling program for addicted patients, combined with the best known nicotine replacement therapy. An eventual goal is to offer a platform for retiring and/or retired experienced clinicians to continue to contribute to the health and well-being of patients by participating in the reduction of the number one most important contributor to M & M known in all of medicine, that of cigarette usage and dependence. The executive director of APMI, Dr. Frank D. Sutton is one of the founding members of BATTS and has taken and passed the comprehensive five day course with post course testing to become a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS).
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Process begun to sumit a proposal to Pfizer IGLC (independent grant, learning and change) on or before September 16, 2015, midnight EST.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Collaborators, including the Medical Education Foundation of CardioVascular Associates, LLC, the Jefferson County Department of Health, Samford School of Nursing and the Lung Health Program at the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
