Association for Abused Women & Children, Inc.

aka AAWC   |   West Palm Beach, FL

Mission

The AAWC and formed in 1995 to help save the lives of abused women and children. Shelters are the best way to aid the abused and start them on the way to a safe and happy life. The abused must to be protected from the abuser and counseled on the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse. The abused are caught in a web and are unable to help themselves. Our purpose is be there and serve as a lifeline to rescue them. They are given a new wardrobe, assisted in getting a job, provided with transportation, coached in rebuilding the self esteem, given makeup and wardrobe tips. We leave no stone unturned to aiding the abused to starting a new life.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

The AAWC offers a home-like setting for the abused. Each client is provided a wardrobe which he or she selects from our thrift shop, which features the finest selection of clothes available in our area. Meals are prepared together where cooking skills are honed. Daily counseling is provided with guest speakers from financial institutions teaching finances. Beauty professionals teach grooming, beauty and wardrobe. Legal speakers provide legal advice. Self-esteem is the backbone of our counseling. Cars donated by the public are given to the clients so they can locate a job and an apartment. Furniture is donated to clients when they find an apartment. Every effort is made to follow the abused woman and her children to determine if our efforts have truly made a difference. This also enables us to improve our techniques. It is our desire to change the face of abuse and to finally put an end to this horrible cycle.
