What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Teen Fatherhood Academy

This is a six month program that trains young fathers to develop fatherhood skills. Each of the six modules not only focuses on the challenges of parenting, with child rearing techniques, but on personal development, as well. This character-building course endeavors to help teen fathers grow emotionally. Teen fathers will receive up close and personal training exercises and workshops dealing with subjects such as Shaken Baby Syndrome and SIDS, which will continue to educate parents and save childrens' lives. In our society, fatherhood programs are difficult to find; teen fatherhood programs are nearly non-existent. Every fathers' involvement should be encouraged from child birth. Florida has the 6th highest rate of teen pregnancy in the country. We cannot expect young mothers to raise these children alone. Teen fathers must be engaged, trained, supported and held accountable.

Population(s) Served

Provide individual and group counseling to all participants. Assisting young fathers with navigating the court system and social service networks. We require all participants to meet our child support, child visitation, employment and personal checking account, guidelines. The court system can be intimidating and confusing, so assisting young fathers with the process; helps bring needed monies to their children. Providing male focused workshops and groups allows participant to openly discuss their day-to-day challenges they face.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

YFCF aims to equip young fathers with parenting skills, employment skills, educational skills, relationship skills, social skills and life skills to strengthen families and support responsible fathers. Our expected outcome is that every young father receiving services from YFCF will demonstrate the characteristics of a responsible father in mind, body and spirit. Each year we seek to provide services to more fathers in need; however, more staff and a central location is needed to continue to grow.

A capital campaign with guidance of a strong board and reaching out to local government and agencies to secure appropriate space for programming are strategies to ensure organizational growth. Securing a designated location will increase awareness in the community and at large. YFCF is the only organization nationally which addresses the plight of young fathers. Annual giving campaigns build supportive networks which highlight the organization's successes and needs. As this supportive base becomes stronger our local government will see its significant impact on the community. Our strategic approach is for local government to support responsible fatherhood at the most basic level which is with young fathers who need the most guidance and have the greatest needs.
