Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Festival of the Arts
Started in 1967, the inaugural festival was a small arts event created by the shared vision of community leaders. Today, this free event has grown into a nationally-recognized festival with 144 fine artists from across the country and the globe, entertainment on three stages, world-renowned street performers, international culinary art cuisine, and extensive programming for young people. Festival of the Arts sees 750,000 people in its six days and is orchestrated by 5,000 volunteers.
Opening Night
Since 1987, Opening Night has been the place for families and friends to enjoy the performing arts and "open" the New Year in the spirit of community. Downtown Oklahoma City is the setting for a variety of choirs, bands, dance troupes, street performers, and an unforgettable children’s craft and performance area. All of the excitement concludes with a fireworks extravaganza at midnight. Opening Night enjoys an attendance of up to 40,000 revelers and is produced with 200 volunteers.
Sunday Twilight Concert Series
Since 1980, this free concert series has offered an opportunity for the entire community to experience live performances in a family-oriented atmosphere each Sunday throughout the summer at the Downtown Myriad Botanical Gardens.
All Access Arts Program
All Access Arts first began in 1984, with the mission of providing free access to arts education experiences for the underserved of all ages throughout the greater metro area. All Access Arts partners with the Metropolitan Library System and the City of Oklahoma City to bring participatory performing arts and visual art instruction to thousands of children each summer. All Access Arts also provides art classes during the academic year in public schools and community agencies, and hosts a Teen Arts Council, offering leadership and service learning opportunities for teens interested in the arts. The aging in our community have access to the arts through our innovative initiative, Creative Aging, in assisted living centers and senior centers.
Art Moves
Art Moves is an Arts Council OKC initiative that provides free arts events in downtown OKC each work day from Noon-1:00. Events may include artist demonstrations or musical performances, and take place in various downtown locations. The daily line-up features a wide range of artistic mediums including musical and theater performances, live art demonstrations, short film selections, and more!
