Mission

The Pikes Peak Justice and Peace Commission is a community-based organization grounded in principles of nonviolence, solidarity with the poor and oppressed, sustainable living and social and economic justice. We engage our community as partners in creating systemic change on local, national and global issues by educating, organizing and nurturing a world of justice and peace.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

PPJPC Programs educate on behalf of social justice, nonviolence, and sustainable living. ECONOMIC JUSTICE--offers Urban Experience for Youth and Educators exploring the realities of the homeless and marginalized in our city; facilitates 10 week discussion series "Challenging Corporate Power" (Curriculum developed by Women's International League for Peace and Freedom). PEACE INITIATIVES--Activism and advocacy offering experiential training workshops in nonviolence; organizing public lectures/forums, rallies, vigils, demonstrations addressing issues of local, national and global concern. SUSTAINABLE LIVING--explores ways of living more simply and sustainably through study groups using curriculum of Northwest Earth Institute; courses include Voluntary Simplicity, Choices for Sustainable Living, A Sense of Place, and Deep Ecology; community-wide collaborative efforts offering film series, fairs and other educational opportunities. PEACE CAMP--Summer day camps for children ages 6-9 and 10-12 from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds, offering day camp and overnight camping activities grounded in the concepts of nonviolence and sustainability. ACTIVE FOR JUSTICE--alternative newspaper published 10 times yearly; features news and views on local, national and global issues.
