What we aim to solve
At Any Baby Can, family is our business. Our team of more than 150 social workers, therapists, nurses and administrators is dedicated to providing hope and stability for families and children through wraparound services. We have the expertise, commitment and passion to walk alongside families to build a sustainable future. Any Baby Can has been serving the Austin community for more than 41 years and we’re stronger than ever. We continue to grow as our city expands in population to meet the critical needs of families and children across Central Texas. Last year, we served over 3,000 clients through direct services, including many that take place in our clients’ homes. We understand that parenting is a journey, and we stand beside families every step of the way. We embrace what makes families unique by providing comprehensive services to meet the challenges our families face. Together, we empower parents to have the skills and confidence to raise a family.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program
Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program serves families with children birth to 36 months with a medically diagnosed condition, auditory or visual impairment, or a developmental delay. The ECI model was built on the understanding that the most effective time to improve a child’s ability to grow and learn is before the age of three. ECI helps children reach their full potential and increases their parents’ knowledge, skills, and ability to support their child. Early intervention responds to the critical needs of children and families by promoting development and learning, providing support to families, coordinating services and decreasing the need for costly special programs.
Comprehensive Advocacy and Resources (CARE) and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Program
Comprehensive Advocacy and Resources (CARE) and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Program serves families of children zero through age 20 who have cancer or other physical, developmental, emotional or behavioral special health care needs. A priority of the program is to establish a medical home for the family. Parents and children receive emotional support, learn coping skills and are connected to health and family resources in the community that span outside of their primary care provider’s scope. The program also offers family events that provide a place for families to meet, have fun and support each other.
Children's Hearing Aid Texas (CHAT) Program
Children’s Hearing Aid Texas (CHAT) Program provides auditory services and hearing aids for children in Central Texas with audiological needs who have no financial alternatives to meet those needs. The program serves families of children zero through age 20. CHAT was founded on the belief that hearing aids are essential for the development of cognitive and social skills in infants and children with hearing loss.
Family Education Program
Family Education Program provides a variety of classes to guide new and experienced parents through the journey of parenthood. The Be Ready for Baby class prepares parents for childbirth and early parenting and the evidenced-based classes, The Nurturing Parenting Program give parents the tools and skills to support their children and to be proactive, confident and appropriate role models. The Family Learning Center offers tutoring for the diverse needs of the entire family. Parenting classes are also offered in partnership with other community organizations at various sites. All classes are offered in English and Spanish.
Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program
Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program helps low-income first-time mothers and their children. With registered nurses serving as home visitors, services begin prenatally and continue with child development education until the child is two years old. NFP home visitors work with families to achieve three main goals: 1) Improve pregnancy outcomes by helping women engage in good preventive health practices; 2) Improve child health and development by helping parents provide responsible and competent care; 3) Improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family by helping parents develop a vision for their own future, plan future pregnancies, continue their education and find work.
Healthy and Fair Start (HFS) Program
Healthy and Fair Start (HFS) Program strengthens low-income families with children younger than five years old whose well-being is at risk or who have a mild developmental delay. Any Baby Can staff utilizes Parents as Teachers, an evidence-based curriculum focusing on home-based parent education and child development. HFS home visitors work with clients in their home to create stable and safe family environments, address developmental delays, increase school readiness and encourage parent involvement in school and community. These result is improved parental confidence and competence, leading to greater family stability as well as appropriate emotional development and increased school readiness of the child.
Tandem Pregnant & Parenting Teen Collaboration
Tandem Pregnant & Parenting Teen Collaboration promotes the health and well-being of teen parents who receive prenatal care at People’s Community Clinic. The collaboration works to reduce the risk of low birth weight infants and subsequent unplanned pregnancies. Tandem utilizes Teen Parents As Teachers, an evidence-based curriculum focusing on home-based parent education and child development from the teen perspective. Tandem has been recognized for incorporating many nationally identified best practices for serving teen parents as well as being particularly effective in promoting positive health behaviors among its participants. Collaboration partners are Any Baby Can, Austin Child Guidance Center, LifeWorks, and People’s Community Clinic.
No Estás Solo/You are Not Alone Counseling Program
No Estás Solo/You are Not Alone Counseling Program employs clinically licensed therapists who provide home-based mental health counseling in English or Spanish to children and families enrolled in other Any Baby Can home visitation programs. Counseling services help clients address mental health issues and cope with stressful and difficult situations.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Any Baby Can seeks to build and model healthy trusting relationships with our client families. Our service providers will teach parents the skills they need to build the same types of relationships with their own children and family.
Our licensed social workers will guide expectations around what happens when a family has a child who's developing developmental delays or has special healthcare needs. Any Baby Can staff hopes to provide parents the skills they need to care for and advocate for their children, enhancing parent confidence and laying the groundwork for long-lasting positive relationships.
Furthermore, Any Baby Can will provide day-to-day case management so parents can dream about their family's future. We hope to continue to provide direct client services and incorporate other community resources into our curriculum.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Any Baby Can espouses many positive characteristics, encompassing two terms: self-efficacy and self-sufficiency.
Several studies have demonstrated that a strong sense of personal control is positively predictive of well-being and health in the United States. Positive feelings based on personal success are highly associated with general happiness and self-esteem. These characteristics help ABC strategize on how to create an internal client resilience.
Parents self-efficacy and satisfaction with their parental role has a crucial influence in parent-child interactions. To explain, parents who feel more competent exhibit a greater confidence in acquiring and exercising effective parenting skills. Parents with a strong sense of self-efficacy can be more at ease and effective in dealing with the everyday difficulties of being a parent, and positively influences their satisfaction with the role.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our capabilities are founded in our ability to continue to function efficiently and effectively, through our 10 unique program areas:
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Program
Children's Hearing Aid of Texas
Comprehensive Advocacy and Resources for Empowerment
Early Childhood Intervention
Family Education Program
Family Support Services

No Estas Solo
Nurse-Family Partnership
Tandem Teen Prenatal and Parenting Program
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
There were three notable program achievements in fiscal year 2020:
• Early Childhood Intervention – A request to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to expand services was awarded; services began on Sept. 1, 2020.
• Nurse-Family Partnership – A three-year grant from United Health Foundation was awarded to expanded services to Hays and Bastrop counties.
