Mission

Cabeceras Aid Project was founded with a dual purpose: (1) to provide humanitarian aid to groups of indigenous people living in the Amazon Basin of South America. This aid is in the form of materials, such as tools, medical supplies, and teaching/learning materials; and human assistance, such as health education and heritage language support, that will promote the continued health and self-sufficiency of these groups; and (2) to conduct anthropological and linguistic research in collaboration with members of these groups to document their cultures and languages. The purpose of this research is to create written records of history, culture, and language for the future benefit of these groups, and for the education of people outside these groups.

Supporting Language Vitality in indigenous Amazonian communities

This program supports community-directed efforts promoting indigenous language vitality, primarily through providing teaching/learning materials that strengthen indigenous language literacy, maintenance, and learning.

Population(s) Served

This program provides financial, material, and logistical support to health care personnel in small indigenous Amazonian communities on a case-by-case basis to address outbreaks of illness as well as individual emergencies.

Population(s) Served

This program provides financial and administrative support and mentoring to indigenous adults who are pursuing higher education in a healthcare profession. Scholarships are awarded based on periodic calls for applications.
