What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Each and every year, more people die from kidney disease than from breast cancer or prostate cancer and thousands more, including both children and adults, are profoundly affected by the tremendous physical, financial and emotional toll brought on by kidney disease. Thanks to the efforts of KidneyTexas, we are transforming lives. North Texans living with kidney disease and the diseases our research impacts have reason to hope for a better life.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Camp Reynal

Camp Reynal is one of the beneficiaries for which KidneyTexas is raising funds for this year.

Camp Reynal, which began in 1992, offers a unique camping experience for children with chronic kidney disease or a kidney transplant, including on-site medication and
dialysis. Camp Reynal is one of the few camps in the country and the only one in Texas
that provides on-site dialysis, allowing children to experience overnight camping.
Almost 1,475 children have attended to date. Without the dialysis center, only 50
percent of the campers would be able to participate.
The 2018 camp session was held from May 26-June 1 at Camp John Marc in Meridian.
We served 100 children, ages 8 to 16 years, and provided 89 volunteers and staff
members. Partnering hospitals included Children’s Health Dallas, Cooks Children’s in
Fort Worth, and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. With strong medical
support, campers participated in outdoor activities such as archery, horseback riding,
swimming, a ropes course, fishing, and boating. These, paired with group activities such
as bonfires, camp fire sing-a-longs, star gazing, nature hikes, cooking class, and a dance,
give children with chronic kidney disease a classic summer camp experience while
addressing their specific needs.

KidneyTexas is raising funds to support Texas Health Resources Foundation to purchase one (1) Baxter Phoenix 115V US Hemodialysis unit, which will ease the burden on the existing machines, and ensure that patients receive cutting-edge hemodialysis therapies.

Texas Health Resources Foundation respectfully requests funding from KidneyTexas, Inc. to purchase capital equipment for the Dialysis Program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (Texas Health Dallas) and offer patients additional support through disease self-management education classes. The Dialysis Program at Texas Health Dallas provides inpatient dialysis treatment to adult hospital patients in need of it-primarily, patients experiencing end stage renal disease (ESRD). At this time, the hospital is in need of one (1) dialysis machine to keep up with the number of patients seen in the program, as well as to stay current with medical device technological advancements.
Texas Health Dallas is an 898-bed acute care hospital and recognized clinical program leader, having provided compassionate care to the residents of Dallas and surrounding communities since 1966. US News and World Report has ranked Texas Health Dallas among the nation's best hospitals in digestive disorders, orthopedics, and neurology and neurosurgery. An affiliate of the faith-based, nonprofit Texas Health Resources system, Texas Health Dallas has approximately 4,000 employees and an active medical staff of more than 1,000 physicians.
Texas Health Resources Foundation supports the fundraising and philanthropic goals of Texas Health Resources, a faith-based nonprofit health system with 29 acute care and short-stay hospitals across 16 counties in north central Texas which are owned, operated, joint-ventured or affiliated with Texas Health.

The system includes the Texas Health Presbyterian, Texas Health Arlington Memorial and Texas Health Harris Methodist hospitals, Huguley Memorial Medical Center, Texas Health Physicians Group, Southwestern Health Resources, outpatient facilities, behavioral health and home health, preventive and fitness services, and an organization for medical research and education.
