What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Senior Mobile Food Unit

This program's target group is Seniors over the age of 60, and children age 5 who no longer recieve WIC. Once the children reach age 6 they fall off this program. Non-perishable boxes with two pounds of cheese are delivered directly to Senior/Low Income Housing Units. In 2013 we distributed 254 food boxes monthly to clients who qualified for this program.

Population(s) Served

This program provides perishable fruits and vegetables to families in need. These products are delivered directly from a food bank in Kansas City by the truck load, then distributed to families in Bates County. Clients come to receive this product every fourth Saturday of each month. Products quantity is determined by the number of members in each family. No income guidelines have to be met. Families declare their need by coming. If product is left after everyone has been served, families are allowed to go back through a second time.

Population(s) Served

Our regular food pantry is unique in that we allow the clients to choose product from a shelf that their family will eat. This is set up like a small store with items arranged in food groups on regular store shelving. Most clients wish they didn't have to use a pantry and we feel this allows them a sense of dignity that maybe they feel they have lost because of their situation. We offer recipes and encourage clients to prepare foods that they may not be familiar with. We offer perishable and non-perishable food products, depending upon the donations we have received. In February 2014 we distributed 37,833 pounds of product to 800 people or 31,528 meals. (1.2 pounds per meal. reference Feeding America)We also have a Community Resource Center in our office that helps clients with other needs on a referral basis. Clients can get assistance with prescriptions, and gasoline to doctor appointments. Beginning in July 2013 we recieved a grant to help clients with utility bills, rent and to aid the homless with rental and utility deposits. We also provide USDA Commodities through our pantry program. In February 2014 we distributed 6,191 pounds of product to 772 people-(5,159 meals)

Population(s) Served

The Pantry Thrift Shop is now in a larger location. The new address is 901 South Outer Road, Butler, Mo 64730. Remodeling of an old bowling alley where the Store is housed was a big challenge. A percentage of the income from this store will be used to purchase food for the pantry
