Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Mentoring the 100 Way
The chapter’s primary vehicle for connecting with youth is through what is titled Mentoring the 100 Way. Mentoring is the signature program and cornerstone of 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Houston, Inc. (The 100). The social, cultural, emotional, and unique needs of youth, primarily African American males, are addressed through group mentoring relationships by members of The 100. Committed to our cause, our members serve as positive role models, advocates, and trusted advisors to children and young adults, including the Collegiate 100 and the Emerging 100, in the Houston community. Mentoring the 100 Way focuses on topics such as self-esteem, career exploration, entrepreneurship, healthy lifestyle choices, and financial literacy; 160 mentees are served in this program.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We are aligning ourselves to utilize the opportunity presented by the federal governments unprecedented investment in economic recovery to advance investments and policies that will lead to bold and transformative climate action and simultaneously advance workforce equity through the creation of good quality jobs. Two components that we are focused on are:
Workforce equity with certifications- this option provides an opportunity for individuals to enter a labor market in which racial and gender income gaps are eliminated, all jobs are decent jobs, and everyone who wants to work has access to family-supporting employment.
Workforce development non-certifications- this option provides individuals the opportunity to obtain gainful quality jobs that are stable, secure, and offer family-sustaining wages and baseline worker protections and benefits.
The 100 BMOH is hoping to is to be a one-stop-shop for the City of Houstons residents seeking free certifications, education resources, wrap-around resources and employment opportunities. 100 BMOH will utilize platforms for digital equity to create pathways for program participants to access resources based on exactly what they ask for, leaving the outdated model of services in silos behind).
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
100 BMOH will utilize platforms for digital equity to create pathways for program participants to access resources based on exactly what they ask for, leaving the outdated model of services in silos behind). As part of our client relations management process, we use a web-based client relationship management tool to register potential mentees and mentors for specific services, events, and assessments based on their skills/needs. The goal of our program is to prepare program participants to succeed in a career in solar panel installation, construction, infrastructure, and cybersecurity, which is a field that is rapidly evolving and has great potential for career growth. By bridging the talent gap and fostering future tech professionals, our engaging and interactive training programs for teens bring value to learners. In addition to preparing mentees for future careers, our organizations can provide them with the knowledge and skills to keep themselves safe online through guided career training. As a result of our specialized cybersecurity education, we offer our students the chance to gain digital literacy, leadership skills, social capital, and productivity in the workplace.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We take pride in our past successes. The Houston 100 has established relationships with the (5) local area-targeted high schools. We are also involved with the City of Houston's initiatives as well as the Resiliency Workforce Development collaborative.
