Mission

Downtown College Prep (DCP) was the first charter high school in Silicon Valley and one of a few schools to believe that all students, regardless of prior academic achievement, should be prepared for college success. DCP is singularly committed to college success. DCP's “To and Through" college completion model ensures graduates and their families are supported in the pursuit of a college degree. With a focus on students who are historically underserved by traditional public schools, DCP serves largely low-income Latino families with limited educational attainment. Over 96% of DCP graduates enroll in college after high school, and 84% of these students persist in college after two years. DCP's college completion rate far exceeds national rates for low-income and first-generation students.

There is a national epidemic as to the inequities of low-income, first-generation students. Downtown College Prep has worked for almost 20 years to ensure that these students receive the highest level of opportunity of a high quality education to and through college & beyond.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Downtown College Prep students graduate eligible for the University of California and California State University systems and have the mindset along with the financial capacity to pursue and complete a four-year college degree.

Downtown College Prep students, families, staff and supporters have a deep understanding of first-generation college success and commit to the individual and collective growth necessary to achieve the mission.

Downtown College Prep expands the national movement for educational equity through advocacy, talent development, thought leadership and serving as an exemplar for first-generation college success.

Downtown College Prep looks to serve more students and families. We want to ensure that EVERY student at our schools goes to college. We must continue to have the funding to support our schools to hire the best staff and recruit these families/students that have the need.
