Mission

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation’s (NPCVF) mission is to support and protect Virginians’ right to make personal decisions about their reproductive choices and health, as well as their ability to access the full range of health care services and information they need. NPCVF's programs work on issues including access to safe, legal abortion care; access to birth control and emergency contraception; comprehensive sex education; and ensuring that Virginia women can get medically-accurate information and support regarding their full range of reproductive decisions. Our mission is accomplished through research, public education, outreach and organizing, and public policy work. NPCVF keeps Virginians – policymakers, the media, and the public – informed about critical reproductive rights and health issues and pursues a range of proactive programs to protect reproductive rights and address barriers to access.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Policy Education and Advocacy

We inform policymakers, the media, and the public about the state of reproductive rights in Virginia and about the negative impact of anti-choice policies restrict access to safe, legal abortion care and other reproductive health services. We advocate before policymakers in Richmond to encourage them to reject anti-choice attacks and to expand access to legal abortion, birth control, reproductive health care, and sex education.

Population(s) Served

NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation has been a leader in the fight to ensure regulations on Virginia's women's health centers that provide abortion will be based on medical evidence and public health, not on an agenda to make it as difficult as possible for clinics to remain open. We work with other women's rights and health advocates and health care professionals to oppose targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP) as leaders of the Virginia Coalition to Protect Women's Health.

Population(s) Served

We're dedicated to ensuring that Virginians can know where to access medically-accurate, supportive information and resources regarding their full range of reproductive decisions and options, and to exposing so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" that deceptively promote an anti-choice agenda rather than offering accurate information and real support for all options for women experiencing unintended pregnancy.

Population(s) Served

Our grassroots organizers are building connections in Virginia communities and engaging a broad base of women and men to become informed, empowered advocates for Virginians' reproductive rights and health care access. They are expanding the visibility of our issue in communities, through tabling, presentations, and other outreach to educate the public about the current status of reproductive rights in Virginia and the threats and opportunities we are facing. We are developing a grassroots network of pro-choice leaders across the state who help spread our messages even further and engage their peers in taking action.

Population(s) Served

We engage students at Virginia colleges and universities in activism and advocacy for reproductive rights and health care access, both through participating in our statewide activities and by pursuing local campaigns on their own campus.
