What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
San Antonio Kids Attend to Win
SA Kids Attend to Win is an initiative focused on improving daily school attendance to ensure students are kindergarten ready, reading on grade level by third grade, graduate on time and are prepared to succeed in college and career. P16Plus partnered with over 50 campuses and community partners in the 2014-2015 school year to increase overall attendance and decrease chronic absenteeism (students who attend school less than 90%) in a non-punitive manner in three school districts. Through continuous data monitoring and monthly attendance committee meetings to set individualized plans for students, 72% of chronically absent students showed improvements and 44% of students were no longer chronically absent. This improvement also saved over $1.3 million in average daily attendance funding for participating school districts.
Excel Beyond the Bell Education Success Scorecard
Excel Beyond the Bell San Antonio is a collective impact initiative of over thirty out-of-school time (OST) providers with a vision to make San Antonio the best place for students to learn, grow, and thrive. P16Plus was selected in April 2015 to provide database and reporting services for the Education Success Scorecard. P16Plus coordinated the MOU process with participating school districts, trained participants, collected and analyzed student-level data, and produced an end-of-year report for school year 2014-2015 on academic indicators of students in participating agencies. P16Plus helps program providers learn about the students they serve by sharing summary data on important academic indicators, including attendance, test scores, grade retention, disciplinary incidents, and the Search Institute’s Developmental Assets Profile, an assessment of social and emotional skills.
My Brother’s Keeper San Antonio
In October 2014, San Antonio Mayor Ivy R. Taylor accepted President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Challenge, a call to action to encourage local communities to work together to close opportunity gaps still faced by boys and young men of color, including Hispanic, African American, Native American, and Asian American males. My Brother’s Keeper San Antonio (MBKSA) is led by a Steering Committee of local experts in youth and community development and works closely with local partners to assess needs, identify proven practices, and establish collective priorities, with P16Plus as the backbone organization. The MBKSA Action Plan includes four pillars, which are aligned with MBK national milestones: high school completion, post-secondary attainment, workforce development, and reducing violence and recidivism. Four Action Networks focus on each pillar and provide an opportunity for local stakeholders to share insights and work together toward shared goals.
San Antonio Youth Commission
The San Antonio Youth Commission (SAYC) is comprised of 22 high school youth leaders—two members from each City Council district and two Mayoral appointees. Each Commissioner is selected for a two-year term and meets monthly to plan events and programs that give voice to the concerns of San Antonio’s youth, facilitated by P16Plus staff. Students are the primary catalysts for change within SAYC and are committed to serving with professional communication, compassionate action, and selfless service in order to truly follow a model of servant leadership.
Diplomás
Diplomás is a collective impact effort to increase college attainment for Latino students in San Antonio. The project unites 16 cross-sector partners, including five school districts, three higher education institutions, and a number of community based organizations and local chambers of commerce. The collaborative integrates existing programs and partnerships into a systemic approach to improve college readiness, access, persistence and attainment for Latino students. The project offers partners an opportunity to make data-driven decisions on interventions and share best practices to ensure that all students succeed.
Education Data
P16Plus uses the StriveTogether collective impact framework to effect cradle-to-career change in Bexar County. As data in an essential part of the framework, P16Plus has built capacity in education-related data services. P16Plus has built trust with school districts and higher education institutions, which have representation on the P16Plus Board of Directors and Data Support Council. Education data specialists from seven school districts, four institutions of higher education and multiple community-based organizations review and provide guidance on P16Plus data initiatives. The P16Plus data team specializes in sourcing, analyzing, and reporting data to facilitate the continuous improvement of education-related initiatives. P16Plus creates and maintains an annual Community Impact Report Card and provides visualizations of additional indicators on its website, www.p16plus.org/results.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of P16Plus is to ensure that every child dramatically improves their educational success in school, college, and career within Bexar County. Our primary goal is to support the educational success of all students, beginning with preparing students for school, creating greater alignment with educational systems, and aligning education with workforce needs. We are committed to coordinated advocacy and action, prioritized funding alignment, data-driven decision-making, and tracking progress relative to prioritized desired outcomes. We convene and facilitate education-enhancing and action-oriented partnerships and collaborations with common agendas and measurement approaches. We will inspire and prepare our communities' families and students for educational success.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
P16Plus convenes and facilitates collective impact efforts throughout Bexar County to ensure student success. P16Plus has launched and maintained four support councils and action networks to collectively reach education goals from cradle to career. These councils and networks include: Birth to Third Grade, Fourth Grade through High School, Higher Education and Workforce, and a Data Support Council. These groups work collaboratively to align community resources and goals so that each child in Bexar County can achieve academic success.
As a collective impact organization recognized by StriveTogether, P16Plus serves as the backbone organization to a cross-sector partnership with over 100 member organizations. P16Plus provides data analysis, project management, and communications support to multiple initiatives designed to improve education outcomes in the community. The role of P16Plus is to provide stability to the partnership so it can continue to thrive over the long term in order to accomplish measurable impact and align to community-wide goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
P16Plus has significant expertise in collective impact as a member of the StriveTogether national network, having met all criteria to be a “Sustaining" member. Through this network, P16Plus has received training in Six Sigma continuous improvement processes specific to education-related initiatives. Additionally, P16Plus has built strong and trusting relationships with school districts and higher education institutions. Five school districts share student data with P16Plus to support continuous improvement efforts in college access, attendance, and afterschool programs. P16Plus has experience using and analyzing data from a variety of public data sources, including Texas Education Agency, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Census American Community Survey, and others to support our initiatives. The P16Plus Data Support Council, comprised of experts in local school districts, institutions of higher education, and community-based organizations, reviews and provides guidance on P16Plus data initiatives.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The goal of P16Plus is for all indicators to continue in a positive direction over time. Of the six primary indicators, five are trending upwards since 2011, the first year reported by P16Plus, including kindergarten readiness, third grade reading, eighth grade math, high school graduation, and post-secondary attainment. Post-secondary enrollment is slightly lower than 2011, and thus has been an area of greater focus in recent years.
