What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

LGBTQ+ Safe Schools Collaborative

A systems-change approach to creating inclusive and equitable schools across Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties in Southwest Michigan.
Provides PD workshops for school staff, assistance to staff and parents to facilitate family acceptance, consultations to school boards, and support and guidance for the development and sustainability of LGBTQ+ student-led school clubs.

OutCenter has proven success delivering meaningful outcomes for LGBTQ youth since 2003. From 2017-2021, OutCenter received financial support from United Way of Southwest Michigan for the LGBTQ+ Safe Schools Collaborative. By 2021, over 800 policies and practices were promoted, modified, or enacted with more than 11,000 students being impacted. Nearly an additional 600 family members and school staff members received assistance, and 100 partner organizations were engaged in the work.
