Defending Wilderness

Wilderness Watch protects individual Wildernesses and the overall wilderness character of the National Wilderness Preservation System by building relationships and increasing the understanding of and support for wilderness protection by agency staff and leaders, members of Congress and other elected officials in Washington D.C., analyzing legislation with the potential to affect wilderness administration, preparing expert analyses on proposed changes in national wilderness policies or regulations, submitting extensive comments and offering alternatives to agency proposals that may harm Wilderness and wilderness character, using strategic litigation to promote and protect wilderness values, and seeking opportunities to promote good stewardship, strengthen the Wilderness Act and the protection of the National Wilderness Preservation System. Staff also gives presentations and attends conferences and seminars, when possible.
