Mission

Wildlands CPR revives and protects wild places by promoting watershed restoration to improve fish and wildlife habitat, provide clean water and enhance community economies. We focus on reclaiming ecologically damaging, unneeded roads and on stopping off-road vehicle abuse.

We are recognized nationwide as an ardent, activist leader in watershed restoration and off-road vehicle issues. We create and supply scientific and legally-based resources and strategies, promote effective policy approaches and communications, and influence on-the-ground travel management and watershed restoration with activists, agency staff and decision-makers.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Wildlands CPR's two main programs are roads and transportation policy.

Our roads program's long term goal is to advance active road removal on public and private lands such that roadless areas and corridors of connectivty are recreated, and wildlife and aquatic habitat restored and enhanced. We do this through citizen workshops, a 6,000 citation bibliographic database on the ecological impacts of roads, and five citizen guides on public land road impacts and restoration.

Our transportation policy program involves two kinds of strategies. First, we engage in high-profile and other precedent-setting battles, including national transportation policy issues, in regard to the use of off-road vehicles (ORVs), working in conjunction with a national campaign, the Natural Trails and Waters Coalition. Second, we provide information, tools, workshops, and issue/region specific consultations to grassroots activists and other citizens across the country to improved the effectiveness of their own efforts.
