What we aim to solve

Providing publicly accessible community spaces and programs, including parks, trails and recreation programs. Securing critical land parcels and trail easements to ensure a community park and trail systems safely connecting our community with both alternative transportation routes and nationally known recreation opportunities into surrounding public land inclusive of Wilderness Areas. Providing recreation programming opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages. These programs include sports leagues, volunteer programs and youth camp opportunities. The programs are focused around environmental education, community engagement, healthy lifestyles and community stewardship.

Parks

Owns and cares for 91 acres of public parks that host youth and adult programming along with recreational facilities for residents and visitors to Big Sky.

Population(s) Served

Holds 19 miles of public trails for recreational uses and safe pedestrian and bicycle routes throughout the community. Provides educational and outreach programs that promote sustainable trail use and other related topics on the trail system with the Hike & Learn and Trail Ambassador programs. Continues to attain and hold public trail easements, construct new trails and maintain trails for the Big Sky residents and its visitors.

This program provides free guided historical tours of the ranch and homestead through a volunteer docent program along with educational programs for the general public and school children all summer long.

Population(s) Served

Promotes youth programs and athletics for more than 150 kids annually during the summer months. It is the only full-time summer youth program that operate during working hours for parents in Big Sky, MT. Programs include environmental education, swimming, golf, tennis, soccer, history, hiking, theatre and community service.

Support the development of a community connected by world class recreation and enrichment opportunities that embrace a vibrant quality of life.

1) Expanding and maintaining the 19 mile Community Trail Network.
2) Growing and caring for over 91 acres of parkland.
3) Providing recreational programs that are available and accessible to all.
4) Engaging over 250 volunteers annually to help us meet our mission.
5) Hosting two community festivals.

Our organization consists of an 11-member Board of Directors and 7 member professional staff team supported with over 50 committee members and 200 volunteers that all bring specific skills and talents to our community allowing us to complete our goals and meet our mission.

1) Obtaining easements to make all critical trail connections to complete our vision of a world-class community trail system.
2) Provide a level of service for recreation amenities as recommended for our current population size and growing population size. The missing levels of service are within neighborhood parks, tennis courts, trailheads, parking. swimming pool and indoor recreation center.
3) Engaged the majority of our community in volunteering, donating or participating in one of our many programs or projects.
