aka SOS   |   Colville, WA   |  www.s-o-solutions.org

Mission

We ensure the sustainability of public lands and of the plant, animal and human communities that depend on them through collaboration to promote sustainable and appropriate forest restoration and conservation, using sound science, permaculture principles and public engagement. We provide education, media, analysis and recommendations for policies, programs, actions and management opportunities as well as advising on appropriate personal and community action regarding consumption and extraction of natural resources for energy and materials; relationships of human to landscapes; and, actions and policies to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Founder of the U.S. Biochar Initiative, we promote the sustainable production and use of biochar.

We strive to help the public understand cause and effect relationships between actions and environmental conditions in the face of climate change, water shortages and natural disasters such as wildfire. From international to place-based, we excel in large landscape conservation strategies. We co-founded and continue to support and engage with the Coalition to Protect the Rocky Mountain Front. Our citizen-based legislation protected over 250, 000 acres including adding 67,000 acres of Wilderness - the first new wildernesses in Montana in 32 years!
Our Art for the Sky program engaged hundreds of Native American students and their supporters in design and implementation of art to be viewed from the sky where the 'paint drops' are children dressed in colorful T-shirts!
