What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Safe Routes to School
Bicycle Colorado, a statewide nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization, partners with schools and local governments to implement Safe Routes to School programs. These programs address specific community needs and incorporate the Five E’s to encourage students and parents to walk and bike to school.
Share the Road License Plates
Funding from each license plate will support Bicycle Colorado’s Share the Road Education Fund making roads safer and more welcoming for bicyclists. Programs include:
Educate motorists on how to safely share the road
Educate bicyclists on the rules of the road and safe riding
Educate event directors and bicyclists on best practices for event safety
Provide guidance to bicyclists involved in crashes
Outreach to law enforcement on the rights and responsibilities of motorists and bicyclists
Complete Streets
One of the biggest challenges bicyclists in Colorado face is that most roads are built incomplete, designed to move just one type of user – motorists. When a street is built complete it is designed to safely accommodate all users including bicyclists, pedestrians, children, motorists, transit users, seniors, and the disabled.
Complete streets will lead to more bicycle-friendly roads, which will increase the number of bicyclists, strengthen Colorado tourism, and reduce road maintenance costs due to less wear and tear. Complete streets will also help Colorado comply with federal policies on bicycle and pedestrian design.
