Mission

Colorado is one of the fastest growing states in the country and current conservation efforts are not meeting the state's widespread needs. CCT was established in 2000 to substantially increase the funding, pace and effectiveness of conservation in Colorado. Our strategy is based on the belief that protection of important landscapes will only be achieved by applying a broad range of conservation tools and by building the capacity of conservation organizations to preserve and steward land. CCT works statewide with all types of conservation groups to support the full range of preservation values: scenic areas, wildlife habitat, working farms and ranches, and community separators.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

CCT's goal is to protect 2 million acres of land in the next decade. Our work is concentrated in two main programmatic areas.

First, CCT advances conservation statewide by increasing statewide funding, expanding conservation tools, and helping to raise the performance of conservation organizations.

Second, CCT focuses on increasing private conservation philanthropy and ensuring that these funds are intelligently invested. We help individuals, families and foundations make a visible and lasting impact with their conservation dollars while tailoring projects to meet each donor's charitable goals.

CCT operates much like a statewide community foundation by combining resources from many donors to leverage funds and accomplish larger conservation goals than what donors could achieve on their own. CCT has worked with a number of families and individuals to create donor-advised funds. With each fund, CCT works with the people and their advisors to design customized conservation giving programs tailored to 1) meet each donor's interests and needs and 2) accomplish each donor's conservation goals.
