Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We address two main problems: first, that Santa Fe is relatively isolated from the world; and second, that there is insufficient attention paid to global education in high schools, colleges, and the community at large.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
International Visitor Program
Every year, CIR welcomes over 300 young global leaders as part of U.S. foreign policy--through our partnership with both the U.S. State Department and the Library of Congress. These leaders visit 5 different U.S. cities; CIR's role is to connect them with key individuals and institutions in northern New Mexico, and to stimulate a robust two-way dialogue between our community and these visitors.
Community Education Events
Through its community education programs, CIR stages 2-to-3 events every month, including lectures by world-class experts on pressing global issues or U.S. foreign policy; seminars and panel discussions, often featuring local voices on the global issues of great importance to New Mexico; and films, excursions, cultural dinners, and more.
Student Education
Through its work with high schools across Santa Fe, CIR strives to create empowered, empathetic, and engaged young leaders, placing a high value on educating the next generation about the world, and about their evolving place within the world. This includes hosting day-long simulations; youth media activities from short films to podcasts on global issues; international career mentoring; bringing the world-class speakers from the community education program to individual classrooms; and hosting the inaugural Global Citizen Summit in 2018.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We open a window to the world by engaging and educating people to be responsible global citizens. Our aim is to create an educated and empathetic citizenry with exposure to other cultures and the leading ideas that shape our world.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We have three main strategies. First, our international visitor program actively connects visiting global professionals with the local community, through one-on-one exchange, professional meetings, social events, and conferences. Second, our community education program regularly stages talks, panels, book signings, luncheons, dinner-and-a-movie, and so on, bringing world-class speakers to Santa Fe. Third, our high school and college education programs actively serve this age group with simulations, competitions, networking, and world-class speakers.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a full-time staff of four, anywhere from 2-6 interns (high school and college students, along with students returning to Santa Fe following their undergraduate degree), and a range of volunteers.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2018 we accomplished significant organizational goals, from a fully developed student program (now with 10 High School Fellows), a highly prominent Gala, and a three-day conference entitled Journalism under Fire, which attracted over 1200 people over 3 days of programs. This year, in 2019, we will consolidate many of the efforts launched over the past several years. We will again host the innovative Journalism under Fire conference, and expect it to be a significant revenue and reputation builder.
