How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

The Clark County Museum Guild’s (CCMG) goal is to ensure the continued success of the Clark County Museum. CCMG envisions the museum being recognized both locally and nationally, for the quality of its historical exhibitions. We also provide a financial support system to ensure the continued quality of the museum and its programs through various community programs and fundraising events. Through our efforts the CCMG provides volunteers and money annually to make improvements to the Clark County Museum grounds, assist in creating new exhibits, add artifacts to the collections and offer public programming.

Charting Impact

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Since 1975, our organization’s primary goal has been to provide volunteer and financial support system to the Clark County Museum and its programs. This provides the museum with supplemental assistance for educational programming, other programs and activities, collections purchases, exhibits, museum maintenance and underwriting of the Blue Star Museums program. Our secondary goal is to preserve Southern Nevada history and culture through advocacy, education, community engagement.

In the next 3-5 years the goal of the CCMG is to raise $250,000 for a new 2,000 square foot storage facility. The museum is currently bursting at the seams and needs our help to raise the funds to build this new structure; guaranteeing that Southern Nevada history is properly preserved for decades to come.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The CCMG board works closely with the Clark County Museum staff to create on and off-site community engagement programs and fundraising activities. We also have a monthly email campaign that keeps visitors abreast of upcoming programs and fundraising events.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The CCMG is a small (55 members) completely volunteer organization with no paid professional staff. We have four elected board officers and an additional ten board members that work together to accomplish our goals. Our passionate and capable board brings a wide range of skills and social connections to the CCMG. We have a strong relationship with Clark County Parks & Recreation (the umbrella which the Clark County Museum falls under) and also have partnerships with the Henderson Historical Society and occasionally with the Henderson Libraries.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
Our organization is small and has one simple, easily quantifiable goal; to raise money to donate to the Clark County Museum. More often than not we do not have a specific goal in mind while fundraising—however, this has recently changed. We have a specific goal of $250,000 for a new storage facility for the museum. We hope to achieve this goal within 5 years (beginning July 2013). Dollars raised will be our main indicator of success. We will try new fundraising ideas and sticking to the tried and true to raise money.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
Most of our work is in small fundraising events throughout the year. We’ve tried several events with various activities and interests—some have been successful, others have not. Our largest and most successful fundraiser, on its third year in 2013, is the Pinstripes & Polka Dots Poker Tournament held at the Golden Nugget on Fremont Street in October. Other fundraisers with varying levels of success have been calendar sales, scrapbook crops, photo shoots, dinners and other events. Future events being considered are an art sale, a run/walk and a celebrity meet and greet. We have just begun the planning stage of raising $250,000 for a new 2,000 square foot storage facility for the Clark County Museum which we hope to accomplish by 2018.
