AMERICAN STREET CAT INC

aka TASC   |   Waller, TX   |  www.theamericanstreetcat.org

Mission

TASC's mission is to minimize local stray cat populations via the humane, proven effective practice of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and related efforts. Those efforts include placing into adoptive or foster homes the kittens and friendly strays found during TNR projects, heightening public awareness, and recruiting more volunteers in order to make a bigger difference faster. Monitoring the cats at street level means that fewer kittens are born outdoors, fewer turn up in shelters competing for forever homes, and the health of cats that are returned to their outdoor colonies after sterilization and vaccination is significantly improved.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Trap-Neuter-Return

Dedicated to the mission of minimizing the number of stray cats making ends meet, our primary focus remains on the humane, proven effective practice of TNR. Lacking homes for all stray cats, especially ones who do not show socialization potential, once spayed or neutered and vaccinated against rabies, these cats are returned to their natural known environment.

For pre- and post-op care plus medical expenses, the average cost per cat returned to its known environment is $75.

Population(s) Served

When friendly cats or young kittens are found during a TNR project, we place them into foster care, get them tested for FIV/FeLV, vaccinated and spayed/neutered, then promote them for adoption.

Population(s) Served

We rely on knowledgable and responsible volunteers to care for the friendly cats and kittens that are brought in from the street and promoted for adoption. TASC vets all foster charges and makes sure they have a clean bill of health prior to placing into forever homes. Our standard adoption fee does not cover the average cost of all vetting, which can run anywhere from just over $100 for routine care on a healthy foster, or $500 - $1200 (and more) for intakes that are injured or sickly.
